My name is Gayle Pace Jones and I'm sending you additional information about Patrick Mullen's obituary which you have posted at the website. My mother Betty Mullen Pace died on 6 May 2002 Jacksonville, Duval Co., FL and she was the one who furnished you with the brief info as it appeared in the Rushville Times in 1890. She was Patrick's ggranddaughter. I'm continuing our research efforts alone these days and so wanted to pass what I have on to you.
Mt. Sterling Democrat Obituary--Nov 1890 (he died on his wife's birthday, Nov 5) Patrick Mullen, an old and repsected citizen of Brown County, died at his residence 7 miles northeast of this city, at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning of old age and an affliction of the hip. It is thought that grief over the death of his son, who was killed in Kansas City last summer, hastened his death. Mr. Mullen was a native of Ireland and at the time of his death was aged nearly 75 years. He leaves a widow and ten children--seven girls and three boys, the youngest child being 14 years of age. The funeral occurred from St. Mary's church at 12 o'clock Thursday, and the burial took place at the Catholic cemetery.
I found this also. Son William Edward Mullen was shot and killed in Argentine, KS and the Kansas City mentioned in his father's obit was KC, KS, not KC, MO:
Chillicothe Constitution, Chillicothe, MO, Wednesday, July 23, 1890, Vol.4, No. 125 ED MULLINS DEAD Kansas City, Kansas - July 23--Ed Mullins, the young man who was shot by John Stover in Argentine last Sunday evening, died at about 7 o'clock last evening.
The following obit is for Patrick's daughter Mary Ann Mullen Stinson who is buried at Benville Cem., along with her husband William.
OBITUARY:
Mary Ann Stinson (nee) Mullen, daughter of Patrick and Sarah Mullen was born near Buckhorn Jan 28, 1857 and departed this life Jan 8, 1919 at Galesburg. She was united in marriage to W.A. Stinson in early life, who preceded her in death three years ago. To their union eight children were born; five boys and three girls, all of whom were present except Ella, who died at the age of 3 years. They are: Joe, Ray and Mrs. Agnes ----, of Galesburg; Burl, of Baylis; Mrs. Ida Mountain of Benville; Alfred of near Timewell; and Edd of the Clayton neighborhood. Besides the children, she leaves an aged mother, five sisters and three brothers; several grandchildren and a host of warm friends. She lived in this county practically all her life until about four years ago when she moved to Galesburg with her son Joe to care for his motherless children and watched over them as their own mother would. She will be greatly missed. She was taken ill with influenza, but thought she had fully recovered as she visited in Mt. Sterling and on returning home was taken with pneumonia and suffered a relapse. She was then removed to the hospital where she could have the best of care, and where she passed away. The body was sent to Mt. Sterling Thursday evening and taken to Benville Friday morning where the funeral was held and she was laid to rest in the Benville cemetery by the side of her husband. Her five sons and one son-in-law acted as pall bearers.
The following obit is for Patrick's daughter Ellen Josephine who married Edward Franklin Bowen. They're both buried at Mound Cem.
