I found some census information for you, including “baby Floyd” in 1920. There is a big discrepancy between the 1900 & 1910 censuses. In 1900 there are siblings living together, all by the same father, but in 1910 we see that the four younger girls are children of Fred’s “aunt Catherine”. Either she is his father’s second wife (making her children his sisters), or the wife of his father’s brother (making the girls his cousins). This would have to be worked out with further research, and finding a will for Fred’s father and also for “Aunt Catherine Yockey”. The birthplace for fathers (Lottie, Clara & Cora, as well as Fred) varies from IL to OH to IL again.
Also note the discrepancy in age, number of children born and birthplace of parents for Catherine Yockey 1900 and 1910.
The fact that the families were consistently in Elkhorn makes me suspect that Lyle was born there instead of Hersman. But I guess his mother could have been in Hersman at the time of his birth, maybe with her mother or at a clinic? Hersman is a small town in Mt. Sterling township, Brown County. Elkhorn is both a town and township, same county.

I couldn’t read the top number on the fraction for Floyd’s age. The date of the census on that page is 13 & 14 Jan, 1920. In most census years, the first name was given to the census taker, even though a child went by the second name. That’s why he isn’t called Lyle at this time.

I hope all this is of help to you in getting a good foothold on your husband’s research. I would suggest you send to Brown County for the marriages of Fred Yockey. The first marriage (wife unknown) would be about 1901, and the second (Myrtle) about 1905. Also Myrtle’s death certificate. I would also send for Lyle’s birth certificate, since it is in the range of years when one would have been filed.
