Mrs. Octavia Johnson Summoned
Octavia Alexander Johnson, daughter of Allen and Lucy B. Alexander, was born in Brown county in August 1843, and died February 14, 1927, in Jacksonville, in his hospital where she was a patient for many years.
She was orphaned when very young and was reared to womanhood by her paternal grandfather, John Batson. She was the youngest and last surviving member of a large family. She united with the Christian church at Hazel Dell many years ago.
She was united in marriage to Martin B. Johnson, a member of one of the oldest pioneer families of this county, in 1863. They made their home on a farm in this county and will be remembered by many of the older residents. When health failed they moved to Mt. Sterling in July 1900, where they resided until the husband’s death, in September, 1901. To this union was born four children: Ellis E. Johnson of this city; alone surviving her: Laura J., wife of Rev. C. B. Newman, well remembered Christian minister; Manilus T., and an infant, preceding her in death a number of years. She is also survived by four grandchildren, namely: Mrs. W. A. McCabe of Mt. Sterling, Paul E. Johnson of Chicago, Harry L. Newman of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Helen Railsbach of San Gabril, Calif., and by five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in this city from the home of her son Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, in charge of Rev. F. W. Huff. She will be laid to rest in the City cemetery beside her husband and children.
